Cinema Review #164: Operation Mincemeat (2022)

Operation Mincemeat tells the true story of the secret British plan during World War Two to convince the Nazis that the Allies would invade Greece instead of Sicily in 1943. It stars a whole bunch of classic British actors including Colin Firth, Matthew Macfadyen and Kelly Macdonald and is directed by John Madden.

Honestly, I didn’t have high expectations going into this one, but was pleasantly surprised. I honestly didn’t know much about the ins and outs of this operation, so a lot of things that happened genuinely surprised and entertained me. Everyone gives solid performances as you would expect from actors of this calibre. The film also made me laugh a few times, which I didn’t expect.

I also want to mention that Paul Ritter stars in this film, a British comedy and film legend, who sadly died last year. You may know him as Martin Goodman in Friday Night Dinner. This must have been one of his last roles, so it was really nice to see him. Rest in Peace a true great, you will be missed.

So, if you’re interested in World War Two or spying, you may get a kick out of this and it was a decently entertaining watch. 3 Stars.
